How to Convert?

There’s a very simple logic for solving this, take sum of all the GPAs for your individual subjects and divide it by the total number of subjects you have, this way you will end up with the total CGPA, Now multiply the CGPA with 9.5 and you’ll get your percentage.

1. Now let’s understand it practically by taking an example. Suppose, these are your GPA’s in 5 subjects.

  • Ramesh is studying in class 10th from CBSE, He scored 8.0 CGPA in his exams, how much percentage would that be? – 8 x 9.5 = 76%
  • Tina, an 18-year-old girl studying in 12th standard scored 10 CGPA in her academic exams, convert it to percentage? – 10 x 9.5 = 95%

A very simple logic to convert percentage into CGPA is to take sum of all the percentage that you have scored in your particular subjects and divide it by the total number of subjects that you have in your curriculum, after doing so, Divide the Obtained result with 9.5 and you’ll end up with the total percentage of that year.

What is so special about 9.5?

This rule was implemented by the C.B.S.E. or Central board of secondary education after they observed and analyzed the data for the past 5 years. They saw this trend each year that the majority of the students scored an average of 95 marks in individual subjects. Average was calculated by seeing the data and most of the students scored between 91 to 100. If you divide the average marks obtained “95” by 10, You get the magical number to convert CGPA to percentage – 9.5!
